Lily's DH Project: Blog Entry #2

I've started collecting sources for my project. Have found 10 relevant tweets and now I'm ready to move onto the other two US platforms and three Chinese ones. The plan is still to look for 10 posts from each platform. Hopefully I'll finish the source collecting part by the end of next week, but the expectations are low and I'll explain why :P

Personal Challenges I've Encountered:

1. Even I started this project expecting literally the worse of humanity, the texts I have to view in order to find my sources are still ridiculous and incredibly disturbing, especially when I'm the target. To cope with this, I'm planning on doing at least one social media per day, if the amount of pressure is acceptable, then I'll do more. And if I'm having "a day" already, then chances are I'm not going to do this, for my own good.

Technical Challenges I've Encountered:

1. Some people reminded me that, people who are friendly/don't have a problem with Chinese students in the US are probably not going to go out of their ways to defend them, or even just being involved in such topics. So it's expected that the way I search for my sources (literally searched for tweets with "Chinese students") are going to find me more negative comments. Don't know how to solve this yet, probably just have to note it in the final "thing".

2. Siting is going to be a problem at the end, I'll just site them as I go.

Philosophical Challenges I've Encountered:

1. So I got really mad at the tweets like "I can feel my heartbeat in my throat and I'm just reading tweets in bed" type of mad. So am I really in a position that I can look at my project from an as objective view? I am fully aware of my biases, but is this awareness enough? The solution for this right now is also the one platform per day mechanism, so I can't get too caught up in it, and will call it a day when it feels off.

So ye my progress is going to be a little slow, not unmotivated, just don't wanna sacrifice too much "having a good day".

Something that might help you calm down from the fully understand and warranted anger is to blow on your thumb (it's a trick to slow your heartbeat which will calm you down) or take out your anger on a stress toy. Good luck!!
