Blog Assignment #3

I feel like I have completed the project, but my amount of content is unsatisfying to me. It was difficult to find primary sources of hate speech in a place where it happens most often, Twitter. Most people who tweet hateful things often delete them later as hundreds ostracize them for what they have said, and once they are deleted nobody has archived them. My procrastination habits definitely did not contribute to the quality either. This project definitely kept true to the "digital" aspect, as doing this sort of thing with something like a scrapbook wouldn't be nearly as effective as seeing a large number of images with the click of a mouse. This project opened my eyes to what people really think about certain ethnic groups and the degree of hate that some people resorted to as an alternative to bettering themselves. If I had to do it again I would ideally create a bot that could archive every tweet with keywords that hate speech usually contains, and of course, I could not do that for this project because I do not have the resources for it. The experience overall gave me a greater sense of respect for journalists and archivists who do this for a career on a larger scale, and I am grateful for people who take time out of their lives in order for us to see and learn more about the human mind by magnifying everything we say to the world.
