ZHIHU QUESTIONS AND TRANSLATIONS

#1-5 are under “What do you think about international students coming back”

#6-10 are under “Why don’t some people want international students to come back”

  1. Makes sense, reasonable, legal, there’s nothing wrong with it. Those who don’t agree are just selfish and can’t empathize. And I have something to say to those people:

    • A lot of foreigners are coming over recently, to shelter, to work.  Did you attack them before attacking the students? If not, you don’t need to keep reading, people who double standard don’t need to read anything.

    • Some people think they’ll bring inserted cases, well then how are they going to do that? They wear all the protections on the way, and there are very strict procedures upon entering the border, temperature tracking, and group isolation for 14 days. The country hasn’t said anything yet, and you’re over here being overly enthusiastic.

    • Some said, the students didn’t go through all the difficult times with us, and now they’re coming back when we’re settled. Were they supposed to come back and increase the medical pressure in the midst of our outbreak then? They sent hoarded supplies and sent them back, that’s helping isn’t it?

    • Some people said, those students that the media reported on had bad attitudes, hid symptoms and complained unreasonably, so I’ll attack the whole international student body. Well yes you can hate on those individuals, but if you hate on the whole group, you would be pretty good matches with the westerners being racists towards Chinese people, and the black guy that sprayed disinfectants at Chinese people on the subway. All experts of judging the whole with actions of the few, and directing personal unsatisfactions on innocent people.

  2. Who are international students? They’re just students who went overseas for a couple years. Unlike Hua Ren and Hua Qiao, the students are still rooted in China. They themselves are foreigners at where they’re at. We’re all working to make China a better place. Why are we pointing the swords at our own people when we should’ve been supporting them and helping them out?

  3. Reasonable, understandable, legal and legit, being a citizen of China, if they have access to the flights, they can come back whenever. They don’t need anyone to agree or disagree, it’s their rights as a citizen. They are our people, and their parents are working, living and paying taxes in China.

  4. It’s good, and it should happen. Those with reasonable needs should all be welcomed.

  5. International students coming back to China, I think that’ll feel like coming home to them. I don’t have experiences of  studying overseas, but in my memory, a lot of things just get better once you’re home. Having a cold in elementary, mom’s warm noodle soup always made me feel better; cold and freezing out in the winter, and once you get home it’s all warm and cozy again; you can always let a bad day go after talking to families at home; sleeping in your own bed at home after an exhausting work trip is always nice and restoring; feeling sick and not getting used to the food in a new environment? Always gets better after a meal at home. Same for this outbreak, the virus is searching for new targets outside, but everything is good as long as you stay home. It's just that the outbreak is a storm, and the way home is muddy. Trying to get back home without getting wet is just so difficult. But home is always home.

  6. No matter how much you don’t agree, if they want to come back then they can come back. It’s their personal business, netizens have no rights to interfere.

  7. Recently it has been inserted cases everyday, we finally flattened the curve and now it’s happening again, of course people are going to be annoyed.

  8. Why can’t the international students come back? Earlier when the country was facing difficulties, students sent home masks, gloves, medical supplies of all sorts. Now they’re facing the same situation when the country has recovered, of course they can come back orderly, following the guidelines, we can’t let them down!

  9. Because it’s just one simple logic --- if you go to where you think it’s the best, then don’t regret now. We’re all waiting with popcorn, it was your personal decision after all. Yes this is an emotional outlet, but you know it makes sense.

    • The country doesn’t owe them anything and they’re even privileged. Not a single one of those who can come back were stopped. And for those who can’t come back, the embassy has Med Packs for them. Communication from the embassy has been good and informative so far too.

    • Those who were infected coming back to China, most were infected on the plane. They would’ve been fine if they didn’t come back, that’s just stupid.

    • A good portion of them are overseas since a very young age, and these people, along with their families, have broken off from China. Using my tax money to welcome someone that’s bound to be a foreigner? Not happy about that.

  10. No one would care if you came back home if the situation wasn’t like this. The point is, you coming back right can only make the situation messier for the country. And I’m confident to say, the majority of international students look down at China, and would kill to stay wherever they are. And are you going to die if you don’t come back? It’s just as safe if you stay at your oversea home. Some people mentioned the students helping China in the early stages, ok, cool, applause for you. The media did reports on that accordingly. Now China can test and treat for cheaper for free, and the outbreaks are worsening day by day overseas, they all want to come back? Out of those hundreds of thousands people who are coming back, how many were the ones that  helped? Ok you’re gonna say I’m moral hijacking, but it doesn’t make it ok for you to come back and cause situations. What makes us angry is that, everyday you speak of the good of other countries, and you only remember China when there’s a situation.
